Are you also a procrastinator like me? I’m sure everyone is guilty of it in their life. It sucks how being a procrastinator ruins everything, stresses us out, and makes us less productive. To achieve better results we all at some point of our life have tried different things after all who don't want to be successful. So, like everyone else, I decided to use this famous productivity hack called the Pomodoro Technique.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Pomodoro Technique

The main idea of the methodology is simple: if you face any large task or series of tasks, just break the work down into a short-timed interval of 25 mins with a break of 5 mints. These intervals are called “Pomodoros”. Repeat the steps 1–4 and take a break of 15–20 minutes.

My Take on Pomodoro Technique:

To make it work effectively and avoid any distractions I decided to choose a peaceful corner. Around 1 pm in the afternoon, chose a task to complete my resume, set a timer, and started working on it. But guess who got distracted easily after setting everything? meh, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It was an epic fail because right after 15 minutes my roommate started telling her stories of her Chinese fellows.

After the bad first attempt decided to give it another shot. This time it seemed a bit easier as I realized what mistakes I did earlier. Set a timer again and started working on it and this time I made it to 25 minutes, can you imagine without any major distraction? Obviously tiny interruptions were there. But sadly the 5 mins break felt like a 1-minute break. As this was just a start so quickly jumped to the second task and the second Pomodoro. This second Pomodoro went really well as I was super focussed when the timer went off and it felt like the flow has been broken. After 5 mins break repeated another third Pomodoro and got tired before reaching the fourth Pomodoro. All in all, I completed three pomodoros and one task.

Was this experiment difficult for me?

When it comes to applying this technique the difficult part is to overcome all those thoughts which start rushing your mind right at that specific moment. Sticking yourself till the timer rings for the smaller tasks and when you are super focused and do not want to take another short break makes it more rigid.

Did it help me accomplish more or about the same?

‘’I discovered that you could learn how to improve your effectiveness and be better able to estimate how long a task will take to complete by recording how you utilize your time’’. Francesco Cirillo

Pomodoro technique is like the feeling of steroids. After accomplishing your task you feel the same kind of adrenaline rush. If you have a lot of tasks going in your mind and how to manage time for each task, Pomodoro is the best way to manage your time for a specific task without losing concentration. It did help me accomplish my task on time and a sense of positive energy to make time for other tasks as well. So. the answer is a big Yes for me.

Do I plan on doing this again?

If I have everything I need to complete my work and just need to sit down or do it then Pomodoro few sessions are the best to achieve that task within time. And if i am planning to do something which can not follow the rules of Pomodoro i will avoid it i guess. But this technique definitely helps to eliminate procrastination.
